It might be a tad early to be asking where is the Champions League Final 2019, but the answer is of course the Wanda Metropolitano in Madrid. The new home of Atlético Madrid since the start of the 2017-2018 Spanish season and Atlético would love to get back there on 1st June next year.
Before all that though, we have all the group stages to get through and thankfully the group fixtures start tonight with Groups A, B, C and D all getting under way. We have new kick-off times in Champions League this year as well, as they adopt the Europa League style kick-offs, so fans can watch more live games on TV.
Tonight sees last season’s beaten finalist Liverpool start their campaign in Group C at home to PSG and with the way Liverpool have started the season, it could be a tough night ahead for Mbappé, Neymar, Cavani and co. I say that, PSG have won all five of their league games thus far just like Liverpool, so to be honest I just hope we get an end to end game of attacking football. Whatever the result tonight, these two will see themselves qualifying from the group stages ahead of Red Star and Napoli. However, I’m sure Carlo Ancelotti will definitely have something to say about that.
GROUP C
Red Star Belgrade 20:00 Napoli
Liverpool 20:00 Paris Saint Germain
As for the above mentioned Atlético Madrid, they start away to Monaco and although it will be a tough game, they should win and then along with Dortmund both should qualify from Group A. With Brugge battling it out with Monaco for that Europa League spot.
GROUP A
Club Brugge 20:00 Borussia Dortmund
Monaco 20:00 Atlético Madrid
Group D is a tough one to call and that’s not because there are some tough teams in it, there aren’t, in fact they’re all probably able to beat each other and for me it’s the toughest group to call. I’ll back both Schalke 04 and Porto who meet in Gelsenkirchen tonight to get through though, with Galatasaray finishing third and Lokomotiv Moscow last.
GROUP D
FC Schalke 04 20:00 FC Porto
Galatasaray 20:00 Lokomotiv Moscow
As for Group B, well what can you say, this should be an absolutely brilliant group and I cannot wait to watch Inter Milan take on Spurs this evening, before switching over to watch an 8pm game. After a good start to their league campaign with three straight wins, Spurs have since lost their last two. However, it’s not as bad as Inter, who’ve only won one, drawn one and lost two of their four opening games. This should be a cracking group anyway and although Barcelona will be favourites to top it, it certainly isn’t a given.
GROUP B
Barcelona 17:55 PSV Eindhoven
Inter Milan 17:55 Tottenham Hotspur
